It’s pizza night! You are tired of the monotony of the cheese pizza and feel like being adventurous in the kitchen. Well, we’ve got you covered. Here’s our masterpiece in the pizza category. It will promptly turn into your favourite too. The flavour of the barbecue chicken is designed to ignite your taste buds; the onions and cilantro are a deliciously addictive topping. It will, no doubt, turn into the hot favourite around your neighbourhood. We don’t believe in doing a sloppy job, so we’ve got you the recipe for the dough as well. Start now and conjure up something that will leave your guests open mouthed – in shock and in greed.

PREP 2 hours

SERVES 2 pizzas


For the dough:

2 and 1/4 teaspoons yeast
1 and 1/3 cups warm water
2 Tablespoons olive oil
3/4 teaspoon salt
1 Tablespoon sugar
3 and 1/2 cup all-purpose flour

For the Topping:

1 Tablespoon olive oil
1/4 cup tomato sauce
2 cloves garlic (roasted and chopped)
8 ounces cheese of your choice
2 cups barbecue sauce (check our homemade barbecue sauce recipe)
2 onions (cut into rings)
1 cup fresh cilantro (washed)
fresh ground pepper


Make the Dough:

In a bowl, combine the yeast with warm water. Let it sit for 5 mins and stir until the mixture is combined and looks like it’s getting foamy. Now, add in the flour, olive oil, salt and sugar and mix thoroughly for a whole minute. Now knead the dough until it looks ready. Once ready, shape the dough into a ball and coat it with olive oil. Cover the dough with a plastic wrap tightly and allow to sit in warm conditions until it rises (1 hour). Now divide the dough into two equal parts. Roll each part into a ball again and allow it to sit for 15-20 mins.

Preheat your oven to 250 degrees C for about 30 mins. Sprinkle 2 baking sheets with olive oil and cornmeal. Flatten each ball of dough into a 12 inch round circle on a surface that has a little flour on it. Lift the edges of the circle upward.

Now for the topping:

Now, mix the olive oil and garlic together. Spread it on top of the dough circles. Add the tomato sauce, barbecue sauce and cheese and then the onions and cilantro. Bake for 15-20 mins until you see the crust browning and the cheese bubbling. Remove when ready and add pepper to taste. Serve immediately.
